Student Leaders

Katie Overbeek is serving as JPII’s president. She is a third year Pre-Occupational Therapy student from Grand Rapids, Michigan. She loves to spend time outdoors, especially hiking, backpacking, and being at the beach. She got a puppy named Sedona during the first COVID-19 shutdown, and spent much of her quarantine and summer with him. Katie loves playing cards, especially with family and friends. She would like to work with a pediatric population later on in her career as an occupational therapist.



Sarah VanDeWeghe is the Vice President for St. JPII Catholic Ministries. She is a senior Social Work major, currently completing her fieldwork at Underground Railroad Inc. in Saginaw. Sarah is from Alma, and has lived in the Saginaw diocese for her whole life. After graduation, she is planning to spend a year in full-time service through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, so she will be moving to a new city and state to live with other Jesuit Volunteers, and work at a local nonprofit!



Edward Tomczyk and is JPII’s treasurer. He is a fourth year mechanical engineering major, and is very involved with SVSU’s race team. Ed’s hometown is Fenton, Michigan, where he attends St. John The Evangelist Parish.






Erin Maloney is the Secretary of JPII Ministries. She is currently a junior at SVSU and is studying pre-occupational therapy. She is from a small town in the Upper Peninsula called Rudyard. Erin enjoys binge watching movies, hanging out in Student Life, and spending an unreasonable amount of time at coffee shops. Erin hopes to move to Utah after graduation and work as an occupational therapist in the field of geriatrics.


Kurt Dicksen has been our Director of Music since 2013. He is currently finishing his bachelor’s degree in music at SVSU while also serving as the Director of Music at Prince of Peace Parish in Linwood, MI. When not at his parish, or on campus Kurt can be found spending time with his Bay City Family.
